The Joy in Daily Art Making: A Conversation with Pallavi Sen

About the speaker:

Pallavi Sen is an Indian artist born in 1989 in New Delhi, India. She lives and works in the Berkshires, Massachusetts, and Brooklyn, New York. Her recent work includes tiled murals, seasonal gardens and a meadow, crayon drawings of plants and flowers from these and other gardens, watercolour paintings of her own home and imagined interiors (often containing family, friends, and some detail of a recent event or dream or idea for an installation), a cookbook, some zines, looping videos with dance and song, quilts, weavings, marbling, printmaking, and designing classrooms. She is also a long-distance walker. An alumna of St. Xavier's College, Bombay, she received her MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, and a BFA from the Columbus College of Art & Design, Columbus, Ohio. Sen has participated in various artist residencies, including MacDowell, the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, PICA's Creative Exchange Lab, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Shandaken Projects, Mildred's Lane, Ox-Bow, ACRE, and the Yale Norfolk School of Art. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Perez Art Museum Miami, Florida. She serves as the Associate Professor of Multiples + Distributed Art at Williams College, Massachusetts, and was the Dean at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Madison, Maine, from 2022 to 2024.
