About the speaker:
Myron Briggs is an American maker, illustrator, urban farmer, and drawing teacher whose work grows out of the close observation of both people and plants. Before moving east, he worked with 5 acres of trees and shrubs at the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum, an experience that continues to shape the way he looks at the world. His current practice centers on drawing: a multi‑year project that imagines a “missing” set of baseball cards through a hand‑drawn deck, and his self‑published book Lessons in Drawing from Ancient to Future, written for his “eight‑year‑old self” and for young artists today. In his drawing and teaching, he treats the simple number‑2 pencil as a daily tool for experiment and practice, encouraging people to develop their own creative approaches outside of formal art institutions.
